More Hillary backlash? Ugh.

Tue Feb 06, 2007 at 12:16:12 PM PDT

Now that Kos himself has jumped on the anti-Hillary bandwagon today, I'd like to lend my voice and respectfully disagree.

I can find no indication that Senator Clinton was actually attempting to link 9/11 and Iraq...the AP story simply presented in a way that made it seem so. Before we pronounce judgement, I think we'd have to see a transcript or video of the interview.

But besides that...don't play dumb, people. Hillary Clinton is no Bush or Cheney and you know it. I often felt as though I was a crazy person crying out in the wilderness in 2000 when I was arguing with Nader people about the whole "Bush and Gore are the same thing" thing. Obviously a major fallacy. So here we go again. But oddly, this time it's John Edwards who is "different". Is this the same conservative democrat who voted for the war resolution too? Is he getting a pass from the Dkos community because he said he regretted that vote before Hillary did? Seriously....somebody help me out here. I mean, I like Edwards and all, but I just can't quite figure it out.

And I don't mean this to be sexist, its just true: As a female running for president, she more than anyone cannot afford to be seen as weak on national security at all. We all know that if she's nominated, that will be the #1 attack on her until election day. This is the simple fact of the situation. If you really think her worldview is as misguided as Bush/Cheney...I've got a bridge I'd like to sell you.

I think all the negative sentiment is directed at Hillary comes from a feeling of betrayal that she became more a moderate voice in the senate than an outright liberal one. Some of her votes have disappointed us, true. And perhaps rightly so. But there's no doubt in my mind that this is the same Hillary who fought to bring universal healthcare to every man, woman and child in the country in 1994. Only now...her methods have changed.

And if finding common ground with those on the other side of the aisle is the successful way to progress the liberal agenda and win the hearts and minds of our fellow Americans in the decades to come...I'm all for it. And no, I don't mean "triangulation"...I mean finding common ground. America is so hungry for that right now. And with the political balance continuing to tip in our favor, that can only spell crushing defeat for the republicans in 2008.

Besides that, the republicans are fucked in 2008 no matter who we nominate anyway. Every neutral observer I've asked feels the same way. So stop with the misguided pessimism already, geez!
